Are there any exceptions to the service surcharge?

Yes, there are defined exceptions that are regulated tariff-wise through the Swiss Pass Alliance.

In the following cases, no service surcharge is charged when purchasing tickets on the train:

• Class change, with a difference of at least CHF 5
• Route change
• Travel errors
• Defective ticket machine at the boarding location
• Children
