What is the MGB railway doing to cover demand at peak times or respectively, to keep waiting times at a manageable level?

As an increase in loading capacity with more connections or longer trains is not possible, the focus is to optimize the loading process and avoid disruptions and breakdowns.

The following measures have already been implemented, are being implemented or at the planning stage:

  • Automated access system
  • Customer channelling on site for high traffic volume
  • Renewal program for locomotives
  • Expansion to two access lanes
  • Extension of the loading ramps
  • In the long term, the renovation of the Furka tunnel will also increase reliability
Despite all these measures, the waiting times during peak demand cannot be completely eliminated due to the limited loading capacity.
